Things people ask

My timer went off silently

iOS only lets an app play a real alarm sound while it is open on screen. When the app is in the background you get a notification instead, and that notification obeys your ringer switch. So: keep the ringer on, and you'll hear it. This is a limit of the operating system rather than a setting in the app.

My diary isn't appearing on my other device

Sync uses your own iCloud account. Check that both devices are signed in to the same Apple Account, that iCloud Drive is switched on, and that Sourdough Diary is enabled under Settings → your name → iCloud. The first sync after installing can take a few minutes. Settings inside the app will tell you whether it is syncing or running on that device alone.

How do I move my diary to a new phone?

If iCloud sync is on, install the app on the new phone and sign in to the same Apple Account — your diary arrives on its own. If sync is off, export a backup from Settings → Your data on the old phone first, then restore it on the new one.

Can I get my data out?

Yes. Settings → Your data → Export a backup writes a file you keep. It restores into the app on any device, and it's yours to store wherever you like.

The timings don't match what my dough is doing

The app's estimates come from your kitchen temperature and how fast your starter has peaked in the past, so they get better the more you log. Two things help most: check the temperature the app has for your kitchen is actually right, and log a peak when you catch one. And when the bowl disagrees with the clock, trust the bowl — that's what the bulk check-in is for.

Reporting a problem

The most useful bug report says what you did, what you expected, and what happened instead. A screenshot is worth a lot. If it involves timing, the time on your phone when it happened helps too.

Privacy

Your diary never leaves your device and your own iCloud. The app can optionally send anonymous usage statistics, which are off unless you switch them on in Settings. If you share a jar in a family tree, a few details about that jar are visible to its family. The full policy is here.

Also: Klingelton eingeschaltet lassen, dann hörst du sie.
